The Ministry of the Holy Spirit-Gives you the Power to be a Witness

The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, but they are all equally God. Matthew 3:16-17 is clear when Matthew states, “When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

In these verses of Scripture, we can see all three members of the Trinity represented, including the Holy Spirit. 1 John 5:7 also details the fact that all three Members of the Godhead are one, “For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.” He is a Person with emotions, mind, and a will, John 16:13, and is just as much God as the Father and the Son Acts 5:3-4.

Some of the Holy Spirit’s roles are: our Helper, Teacher, Guide, Revelator, Administer, Intercessor, Comforter, Counselor, convicts of sin, judgment, and righteousness, He gives you power and boldness to accomplish God’s will for your own life, and He glorifies Jesus and Jesus alone, and many other things. It is through the Holy Spirit that we are born again, John 3:5-8. He is so vital to our walk as Christians, and it is impossible to make it through the trials and tribulations that you will face without His help and guidance.

We need to understand that it is the Spirit of God that is the Author (2 Timothy 3:16) and Interpreter (2 Peter 1:20-22) of the Holy Scriptures. He is the One that is going to give you the accurate explanation of the words that He inspired in the Bible. He will bring every Scripture to remembrance in the times that you need them, John 14:26.

That is why it is so critical that we get into the Lord’s Word reading, studying, and applying it to our lives. We must study to show ourselves approved, 2 Timothy 2:15. Can you just imagine having to engage in direct combat with the enemy with no arsenal? How can the Holy Spirit bring Scriptures to your remembrance if you have none stored in your memory bank to reference?

There are so many functions of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the believers of Jesus Christ. In this article, I am going to break down how the Holy Spirit gives us power to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ unapologetically. He is the One that will give us the fierceness and boldness to never be ashamed!

I am going to highlight a passage of Scripture that reveals to us how He does just that!

Acts 1:8

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

So much to unpack that the Lord has revealed to us through Luke the writer of the Book of Acts. One thing is extremely clear, and that is that we are told that will shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us. What exactly is the sole purpose of the power in this particular verse of Scripture? The power is specifically to be used to be a witness for Jesus Christ.

When you become a believer, you should want to share it with anyone that is around you! It is the Gospel which means “good news.” What exactly is the good news? The fact that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ came down to Earth fully man and fully God through a virgin birth so that He could atone for our sin debt is something to celebrate.

With our sin debt paid we can now choose to live a life eternally with the Lord instead of complete separation from Him. Jesus’ death on the Cross at Calvary signified so many things, but one of the main things it represents is Him triumphing over the devil and his entire demonic kingdom. This gives us hope that we can overcome the schemes and the wiles of our enemy!

The good news is those that choose to put their faith in Jesus and what He did on the cross can have freedom from demonic oppression. We no longer have to live a life that is hopeless, not knowing what the future holds. Jeremiah 29:11 is very clear as the prophet reveals, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

God’s plan for our lives is that our days are filled with peace, a future, and hope. Unfortunately, many people have no joy, peace, or hope for their future! That is why it is so important that we share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every single person that we come into contact with. There are so many people out there that need to know that there is a better way to live than what they are living right now!

When I first got saved and was on fire for the Lord, it was difficult for me to share my faith with others. Especially those that knew my story prior to my salvation. It wasn’t until I was able to submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit Who gave me the power to overcome every single doubt that I had in my heart and mind!

The enemy’s job is to instill fear into your heart so that you’ll be too scared to share what God has done for you! The devil is a liar! With the Holy Spirit giving you power, you are able to spread the Gospel to all of those that are around you! We don’t want anyone to be eternally separated from the Lord, especially our loved ones!

Let’s take a closer look at the primary passage of Scripture that I am highlighting out of the book of Acts 1:8.

The word “power” being used is the Greek word “dynamis” which means: the power of God. The word “witnesses” being used is the Greek word: “martys” which means: to be a witness for one, serve him by testimony. The words “the end of the earth” being used here is the Greek word “eschatos” which means: the uttermost parts of the earth.

When we piece all of what Luke through the Holy Spirit is saying to us here, we can determine that he is letting us know that the Spirit of God is the Power that we need to be an effective witness for Christ! Going a step further, the Holy Spirit allows us to proclaim our testimony with no fear to every creature and every person all over the world even to the end of the Earth.

This is crucial when it comes to sharing God’s Word because what the Holy Spirit will also do is bring Scriptures to your remembrance, John 14:26. The Lord’s Word is a Sword in the spirit and can pierce through a person’s doubt and unbelief! When you pair the Spirit of God moving in a person’s heart with your personal testimony of what Christ has done in your life, it becomes an undeniable witness to others.

Conclusion:

The Spirit of God is the most underestimated and overlooked Person of the Trinity (Got the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit). He plays so many roles in the life of a believer of Jesus Christ it is to our benefit that we get to know Him better!

One of the ways that He assists us is He empowers us to be a witness of the Gospel to everyone around us! Often times, we shy away from proclaiming the Word of God because of fear of what other people might have to say about it. That is why the Holy Spirit is crucial because He allows us to speak with fierceness, authority, and boldness!
