The Legal Rights that you give the enemy-Your Words
Often times, the majority of us underestimate the power of one of the smallest members of our body and that is our tongue.
James 3:5-7 states “Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind.”
Then James continues to go into detail about the dangers of one’s tongue, James 3:8-12 states, “But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.”
So much to unpack from these powerful Scriptures from the Word of God! James is showing us in these verses that our tongue can boast, kindle fires, has the ability to defile our entire body, cannot be tamed, is evil, and full of deadly poison. Then he describes one of the most important takeaways from his description of our tongue and that is that it has the ability to bring forth blessings and curses.
A lot of Christians read powerful passages in the Holy Bible like these and don’t really take them seriously. Or they won’t take the time out to truly understand what they are saying. This is how a lot of us get ourselves in situations where the enemy can come into our lives and establish strongholds legally.
James through the Holy Spirit is not just speaking a careless word; he is literally telling us how influential the words that we speak actually are. They have the power to speak life or to speak death. Once we gain an understanding of how our verbiage can shift situations, we will begin to take what we say seriously.
I am going to highlight one of the most powerful passages of Scripture pertaining to the words that we speak.
Proverbs 18:21
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.”
The book of Proverbs written by King Solomon is one of the most powerful books of the Bible. It is filled with spiritual rules and principles that we need to know in order to stay ahead of the devil’s tactics against us! God’s Word is meant to guide us, correct us, and instruct us on how we are to live as believers of Jesus Christ.
In this verse of Scripture, we can determine that Solomon is making it known that death and life is in what you say. It is meant to be taken literally. The fact of the matter is that you can create curses or blessings over your life based off of the words spoken out of your mouth. That is why it is so important to guard your tongue from speaking words that the enemy can snatch up and use against you!
For instance: we have all been in a situation where we begin to feel under the weather, but we can’t quite put our finger on what is causing it. What words are you speaking over yourself that is lining up with the lies that the devil is shooting at your mind in that moment. What is the first thing that you do? Do you seek the Lord on your circumstance, or do you go straight to google?
We need to get in the habit of immediately proclaiming the Word of God the minute you feel like something is not right: mentally, spiritually, physically, and emotionally. It is called a Sword for a reason! That is why it is imperative that you read your Bible daily so that you can have Scriptures stored up in your Scriptural memory bank so the Holy Spirit can bring them to your remembrance when you need them, John 14:26.
Always and I mean always speak life no matter what the situation that you are in is trying to make you speak, regardless of what the doctor’s report has to say, and no matter what the people around you are saying! You speak life! Rember the doctors are not always right, and God always has the final say. You best believe the enemy is just waiting for you to come into agreement with that negative report so that he can take your situation and intensity it!
We often underestimate the Power of God’s Word; He gave it to us for a reason. When the Lord Jesus Christ died and rose again on the Cross at Calvary and stated it is finished, that is exactly what He meant! He gave us all authority to trample on the devil and his entire demonic kingdom (Luke 10:19) and that includes quenching every dart that he throws at us! We either use the weapons that God gave us or we don’t, it’s really that simple.
Let’s take a look at another passage of Scripture that deals with watching the Words that we speak.
Proverbs 12:18
“There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, But the tongue of the wise promotes health.”
Another major area that the enemy will use your words against you and whomever they are aimed at are words that pierce. This includes negative words said to your spouse, children, family members, friends, and even yourself! That is why it is imperative that we watch the words that come out of our mouths. Remember we can promote life (blessings) or death (curses) by what we say.
The words “like the piercings” being is the Greek word “maḏqārâ” which means: piercing, to stab, thrust, like the thrusts of a sword. Can you just imagine how negative and evil the words that the Lord is referencing here have to be in order to create spiritual stab wounds on a person?! We have all done it at one time in our lives or another where we want to hurt the person that we are speaking destructively to and we want them to pay!
The problem is that God is extremely clear in Romans 12:19 when the Apostle Paul states, “Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.” God will take care of us but are we willing to trust Him enough to allow Him to?
Let’s take a look at some examples of word curses that many believers and non-believers speak over themselves:
“I am never going to make enough money to pay for all of my bills!”
“I’m ugly and nobody is ever going to want to be with me!”
“I am so stupid, why did I do that?!”
“I am going to be sick forever!”
“I am never going to be able to break free from this addiction!”
Then we wonder why things in our lives are not going the way that we want them to. Jeremiah 29:11 is a very powerful passage of Scripture that gives us a clear example of what plans the Lord has for us as His children. It states, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
The Lord’s plan for us is to have a future and hope! Anything contrary to that is a lie from the devil and when you say those words out of your mouth that the enemy is whispering in your ear, you are coming into agreement with them. That is how he can begin to develop those strongholds in your life. The devil is a LIAR, never align yourself with what he has to say about you!
Then what is even worse than speaking word curses over ourselves is when we speak word curses over our children and our spouse!
Some examples of these kind of word curses pertaining to your spouse are:
“You are good for nothing, I don’t know why I married you to begin with!”
“You still don’t have a job, just worthless!”
“I knew you were never going to be able to take care of this family!”
“You’ve gained so much weight after having our children, I am no longer attracted to you!”
“You don’t satisfy me anymore, I think I need to start looking elsewhere!”
Instead of being the partner that the Lord has called you to be for your spouse, you are the number one person that gives the devil the legal right to begin to wreak havoc in their lives. The most ironic part is when you speak to your spouse in a nasty, negative way, you are really speaking to yourself because the two of you are one, Genesis 2:24.
Then we wonder why our partner just can’t get right! Well, if we would stand in the gap for them and speak life over them and stop speaking death, the Lord can use those prayers to intercede on our behalf. Be a person that prays, intercedes, and goes to war for your spouse! The devil wants you to help him destroy the union that God created, don’t give him that satisfaction!
One of the worst things that a parent can do is speak word curses over their own children! This really breaks my heart when I hear parents do this to their children!
Some examples of this are:
“Why did you do that, you’re such an idiot!”
“You are never going to amount to anything!”
“You’re probably going to end up in jail because of how bad you are!”
“You were a mistake from the beginning!”
People literally speak these things over their children over and over again and wonder why they aren’t prevailing in life, don’t think highly of themselves, and get in trouble with the law. The Lord gave us our children to protect and nurture them showing them the way that they should go (Proverbs 22:6), not bash and destroy them robbing them of their chance at life!
What you don’t see are the ramifications in the spirit realm, your words are giving the devil and his demons the legal right to come into your child’s life and completely destroy it. They are just sitting around waiting for you to say something that will allow them to gain access to you and your family.
The spiritual law of God told you up front that death and life is in the power of your tongue. So, what you are doing is speaking emotional death, spiritual death, mental death, and physical death over yourself and your loved ones. The devil knows this spiritual law very well and you best believe he will use it against you any chance that he can!
Let’s be the type of people that speak life to our loved ones, prophesy over your spouse and your children. Do not allow any evil, negative word to come out of your mouth. We are in a spiritual battle against an enemy that wants to destroy you and yours, do not make it easy for him!
Let’s look at some examples of blessings that we can speak over ourselves, spouse, children, family, and friends:
Numbers 6:24-26 “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”
3 John 1:2 “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
1 Peter 4:8 “And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”
Psalm 139:14 “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.”
Psalm 121:7-8 “The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.”
Begin to speak the Word of God over your spouse, your children, yourself, and all of your loved ones. The Lord’s Word has power! It isn’t just letters written in a book that’s collecting dust on your shelf. Not even close, it is living and has the ability to break chains of darkness off of your life, turn your situation completely around, and fight against the enemy breaking the strongholds in your life! It is your double-edged Sword, Hebrews 4:12.
Conclusion:
The devil and his entire demonic kingdom form their mischief by law, Psalm 94:20. Meaning in order for them to have the legal right to afflict us, torment us, oppress us, we need to break the Lord’s Biblical stipulations that He has laid out for us. We have all the information that we need to live a victorious life written in the Word of God, but are we reading it?
I fell victim to the enemy’s schemes that he devised for my life, and I had to pay for it severely. The thing is that I put myself in that situation because I was disobedient to the rules that the Lord had given in His Word. That is why it is my mission to warn as many people as I can about the legal rights that we knowingly or unknowingly give to the enemy!
