Spiritual Emptiness-Garnished
One of the most dangerous places to be as a believer of Jesus Christ is in a place of spiritual emptiness. The enemy and his entire demonic kingdom love to dwell in dark, dry areas. When you are void when it comes to the things of the Lord it is the perfect breeding ground for the devil to wreak havoc in your life. The Word of God is clear that the enemy is roaming around in search of someone to devour, Luke 10:19.
What that tells is the fact that he can actually create chaos in your finances, your health, your mind, and everything in between. He is coming to steal, kill, and destroy and he will hold nothing back, John 10:10. The way that we combat his demonic attacks is to ensure that we are spiritually filled with the Holy Spirit, God’s Word, prayer, praise, fasting, etc.
Romans 8:6 breaks it down clearly when the Apostle Paul states, “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Paul is revealing to us a very important truth and that is that a spiritually minded person will live in life and peace. That word “spiritually” being used here is the Greek word “pneuma” which means: in the power of the Spirit, moved by the Spirit, and in a way which you are governed by the Spirit.
So, what we can determine through this passage of Scripture is that it is beneficial that we walk spiritually minded, governed by the Holy Spirit. When we allow ourselves to become distant from the Lord, we don’t hear the voice of the Lord’s Spirit as loudly as we would if we weren’t detached from God. It is imperative that we fill our temples with everything having to do with the Lord especially after we receive deliverance from the hand of the enemy.
One of the worst things that you can do pertaining to getting set free by the Lord Jesus Christ is to simply garnish your house “temple.” Meaning that on the outside you look like a Christian, dress like a Christian, and even speak like one would expect a Christian to speak, but inwardly nothing has changed. Let’s dissect the passage of Scripture that discloses the dangers of garnishing your house.
Matthew 12:44
“Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.”
The Lord Jesus is giving us some insight on what a demon would say after it has left its dwelling place. Once it is removed it will return to its house “a person’s temple” and see if there have been significant enough changes to keep it out! The word “garnished” being used here is the Greek word “kosmeō” which means: to ornament or adorn (to make something more beautiful or attractive by adding decorative elements.)
An example of this would be a person that receives some deliverance and begins to change the way that they dress, from dressing overly promiscuous to dressing more reserved. To the naked eye it would seem like this person has it altogether and is heading down the right path. However, the Lord looks at our hearts, 1 Samuel 16:7.
God knows if there is truly a complete change within your heart regarding the old person that you used to be. The enemy and his demonic kingdom are also monitoring your every move to see if what you are speaking out of your mouth is lining up with your actions. That is why God is definitive in Matthew 7:15-16 when Jesus states, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?”
The Lord is warning us of false prophets that look like they are true men and women of God on the outside, but on the inside, they are as bad as bad can come. Then He discloses to us how you would know if a believer professing to be a Christian is truly a believer and that is by their fruit. Are they bearing bad fruit or good fruit? What are some examples of good fruit?
Galatians 5:22-23 details, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” As we analyze what the fruit of the Spirit are we can determine that they are all inward actions having to do with the condition of the heart.
There is no way that a person looking from the outside in to clearly distinguish if a person is radiating the fruit of God’s Spirit unless they know them personally. The Lord doesn’t need to assume but will know whether or not a person is really attempting to live upright in His eyes.
The enemy and his demons, however, are not all knowing and will not know the condition of your heart, but they can determine the state of it by your actions. Are you spending time in the Word of God, are you praying, fasting, praising the Lord in Spirit and Truth? These are the things that they will be looking for to determine if your house is merely just garnished on the outside or if you are actually a new creation on the inside as well, 2 Corinthians 5:17.
Conclusion:
One of the most dangerous things that a person can do after receiving any form of deliverance from the Lord is to remain the exact same! In fact, the devil and his demonic kingdom are counting on it. When the Power of God has swept, cleaned, and restored your house “temple,” it is imperative that you fill it up with the things of the Lord.
You need to get into the Word of God, pray, fast, praise, strengthen your Spirit Man. What that does is ensure that the enemy cannot find a loophole back into your already cleansed house. They will attempt to find a more opportune time to mingle their way back into your life which will make your situation 7 times worse!
