Spiritual Emptiness
What exactly is spiritual emptiness? Simply put it is a condition where you feel completely separated from the Lord in every aspect of the word separated. It is when a person is attempting to live their lives in their own way, doing their own thing, and living by their own standards. It is when someone tries to fulfill a void that only God can fill with possessions, praises, pleasures, and especially sin.
This pertains to both believers and non-believers because spiritual emptiness does not discriminate! Some of the characteristics of a person that is spiritually empty are: a life with no production of the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), when you feel empty even when everything on the outside is seemingly perfect, and you are completely separated from God particularly because of living in sin.
The reason why it is vital that you don’t experience spiritual emptiness especially as a believer of Jesus Christ is because demons love to dwell in dry, dark places. One passage of Scripture that discloses to us how to replenish yourself if you are feeling like you’re lacking spiritually is found in John 6:35.
Jesus states, “And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” The Lord is revealing to us a very powerful truth and that is when we feel like we are spiritually empty we can get into the Word of God, pray, and spend time with Jesus. He is the Word of God made flesh, John 1:14. When we get into the Scriptures, they will replenish your spirit man filling you spiritually.
This series I am going to take a deep dive into the dangers of remaining spiritually empty especially after receiving deliverance from demonic oppression. The devil doesn’t like to give up easily and so what he will do after the Lord has delivered you is come back at a more opportune time just like he did with Jesus Himself, Luke 4:13. If he tried it with the Lord what makes us think that we are immune to those kind of attacks.
Getting set free from things that are keeping you bound ex: addiction, alcoholism, depression, anxiety, is the easier part; it is staying free that requires a lot of work. You have to be filled with the Holy Spirit, getting in the Word of God, and making sure that your mind is completely renewed.
Your mission should be leaving no “place” for the devil to come back in and wreak havoc in your life! Let’s take a look at the verses of Scripture out of the book of Matthew that I am going to do a deeper dive into so that we can understand why we need to fill our temple “house” with nothing but the things pertaining to the Lord.
Matthew 12:43-45
“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.”
There is so much that we can unpack out of these revelatory passages of Scripture. In this series called “Spiritual Emptiness” I am going to break down the three areas that need to be focused on after receiving deliverance from the hand of the enemy.
Those three things are:
Empty
Swept
Garnished
Remember Jesus Christ died on the cross at Calvary for our freedom from the demonic strongholds that the devil had believers under, Colossians 2:15. Christ stated that it is finished and what that means is the fact that He has given us every warfare tool that we will ever need to overcome every snare of the enemy, Luke 10:19. It is then up to us to apply the promises that He has given us.
Conclusion:
One of the worst things that you can do as a believer of Jesus Christ after you’ve received deliverance from the enemy is to stay the same. In fact, the devil and his entire kingdom are banking on it! He will test your authenticity when it comes to being a true Christian. It is one thing to say that you believe, but it is an entirely different story to live like you do.
I cannot stress the importance of filling your temple “body” up with the Holy Spirit. Prayer, and the Word of God after becoming a believer of Christ. The devil doesn’t like to lose, and he is a legalist and can and will use your disobedience against you!
