Why Your Mountain Won’t Move-You Walk by Sight and not by Faith
We are the type of society that wants what we want when we want it, and we want it Now! Unfortunately, the Lord does not operate on our timing but on His. Isaiah 60:22 details it perfectly as it states, “…At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen.” We don’t know what is going on behind the scenes, but God does and knows the perfect timing for everything. The problem occurs when we do things our own way without asking the Lord for guidance.
There might be a reason why the Lord is delaying our breakthrough: He might be teaching us patience, faith, or how to trust Him through the process. We have to learn how to get into the habit of walking by faith and not by sight. Meaning that we choose to believe for our healing, deliverance, or salvation for our loved ones before we see the Lord actually make it come to pass!
God is very clear about what He has to say regarding our faith in Him as Hebrews 11:6 reveals, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Without planting our faith in God, it is impossible to please Him because we must first know that the God that we serve is mighty without any restrictions on what He can do!
The moment that we can truly gain that revelation; we can generate that radical faith to believe anything with no hesitation! Hebrews 11:1 states “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” The writer of Hebrews is revealing to us that faith is the confidence of knowing that you will receive what you are hoping for even though you can’t see it yet.
It is holding the Bible to the standard of absolute Truth with no doubt. It is the type of Belief that is not movable or shakable. It is vital to have the kind of Faith that places its assurance and trust completely on the Lord Jesus Christ without hesitancy or unbelief. Regardless of whatever mountain of sickness, disease, trial, or tribulation that you might be facing you have to KNOW that God has the remedy.
The only way that you are going to be able to build the confidence and Faith that will eliminate all uncertainty is by studying and hearing the Word of God, Romans 10:17. Establishing your Faith is so detrimental when it comes to tearing down your mountain because it gives you the assurance to know that the thing that you are hoping for will come even though you can’t see it yet!
Let’s take a look at the key passage of Scripture that reveals to us the importance of walking by faith and not by sight!
2 Corinthians 5:7
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
The words “we walk” being used in this passage is the Greek word “peripateō” which means: to regulate one’s life, to conduct oneself. The word “faith” being used is the Greek word “pistis” which means: trust and holy fervor born of faith and joined with it. The word “sight” being used is the Greek word “eidos” which means: by sight, beholding.
So, when we piece the meaning of these words together, we can conclude that the Apostle Paul is letting us know that walking in faith means living your life regulating and conducting yourself joined with the Word of God no matter what things look like in front of you. It is easy to begin to doubt whether or not your mountain will move when circumstances say otherwise.
It is in those moments that the true test of your faith will be on display. What comes out of your mouth in the first 30 seconds of when your mountain begins to form? When you begin to feel sickness come over your body or when your finances are not where they need to be, do you pull up Google on your phone and begin to do a self-diagnosis based on your symptoms and seek help from every avenue except from the Lord?
We can never forget that death and life is literally in the power of our tongues, Proverbs 18:21. The words that come out of our mouths can change the entire trajectory of the situation that you are facing including the stubborn mountain refusing to move. Speaking life is speaking God’s Word into your circumstance and speaking death is speaking the devil’s lies that he is projecting into your mind.
The enemy is very crafty, and he will use your vulnerable moments to plant seeds of doubt. It is in those instances that you absolutely have to keep your eyes on Jesus Christ. Hebrews 12:2 is very revealing, it states “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Jesus Christ is the Author (Predecessor in a matter) and the Finisher (the Perfecter, one who has in his own person raised faith to its perfection and so set before us the highest example of faith). So, in other words Jesus was our Forerunner and example of what perfect faith is supposed to look like because His Faith was absolute.
It can be difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you face tribulation after tribulation, and storm after storm, but the Lord is clear that weeping may endure for the night, but joy always comes in the morning, Psalm 30:5. It won’t always be that way and when you stand on His promises, they cannot return to him void (Isaiah 55:11) meaning that they have to accomplish what the Lord established them to accomplish!
We need to stop looking at our mountains as if they are final because they aren’t! When we fixate on what things look like instead of what the Word of God says, those obstacles that are standing in our way will not move. Faith proclaims it is already done before it even happens, because God said it and you believe it!
Galatians 6:9 details, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” The Apostle Paul is encouraging us to maintain persistent faith even when your situation seems impossible! When you stand on God’s Word without wavering to the left or the right, you will reap (reward for well-doing) if you do not lose heart (to grow weak, weary, or be tired out)!
Conclusion:
We are a microwave society that wants what we want when we want it, and we want it right now! That kind of mentality will cause you to grow weary when you are tearing down the mountains (obstacles) in your life. We cannot stand on what things look like, but we need to get to the point where we stand on what God says no matter what!
Radical faith says: I don’t care what the doctor’s report says, what kind of a life my child is living right now, what my finances say, or what people around me have to say; the Word of God is my final authority! I will stand on it, proclaim it, and speak it out until I see my situation line up with what the Scriptures promise me! Walk by faith and not by sight and see how every one of your mountains will MOVE and get out of the way!
